To create an employee training course, pick one outcome, split it into short lessons, write a simple script for each, add a quiz, turn the scripts into video, then publish and track who finishes. You do not need a studio. You need a plan.

Every company has knowledge stuck in a few people’s heads. “How we do refunds.” “How to onboard a client.” “What to do on a customer complaint.” A course turns that into something anyone can follow.

The six steps to create an employee training course

Step 1: What outcome should the course have?

Pick one outcome. Write one sentence: “After this course, a new person can ______.”

Good: “…issue a refund the right way.” Weak: “…know about refunds.”

A clear outcome keeps the course short. Everything that does not help it can go.

Step 2: How do you break a course into lessons?

Split it into small lessons of 3 to 7 minutes each. That is the length of Skillermatic’s own security lessons, and people can finish them on a phone between tasks.

Course goalLessons
Refund the right way1. When we refund 2. How to check the order 3. How to record it 4. What to say to the customer

Step 3: How do you write a training script?

Write the way you talk. For each lesson, write:

  1. The hook: one sentence on why it matters.
  2. The steps: 3 to 5, in plain words.
  3. A real example.
  4. A one-line summary.

Read it out loud. If you run out of breath, it is too long.

Step 4: What should the quiz look like?

Two or three questions per lesson. Use real situations, not trivia. “A customer asks for a refund without a receipt. What do you do first?” teaches more than “What is our refund window?”

Step 5: How does AI video turn a script into a lesson?

AI video turns your written script into a voiced video, with scenes made for you. You skip the camera, the actors and the editing. Video helps people remember, and it stays easy to update when your process changes.

On Skillermatic, our course creation service uses our own Media Studio with AI-generated scenes and voice, rather than a generic slideshow with a voiceover.

Step 6: How do you publish, assign and track a course?

Put the course in your company portal, assign it to the right people, and check who finished. The same tracking and certificates cover your own course and the security tracks. See how to track employee training completion.

Should you build the course yourself or ask for help?

It depends on your time. Here is a simple guide.

You have the know-how and some timeCourse Studio, build it yourself
You know the subject but have no timeWe build your course: you give the subject, we write and produce
You want security lessons fastThe ready-made course library

A worked example: a refund course

Outcome: “A new cashier can issue a refund the right way.” Four lessons of about 4 minutes each. Each has a 100-word script and two quiz questions. The scripts become video lessons. You assign the course to every new cashier, and check completion after a week.

You wrote about 400 words of script in total. That is the whole job.

What are good topics for a first custom course?

  • Onboarding and “how we work here”
  • Product knowledge for sales and support
  • Your internal processes
  • Your own policies, such as acceptable use of company data

For more on onboarding, see employee onboarding training online. For a company-wide view, see LMS for compliance training.

What mistakes should you avoid?

  • Starting with a topic instead of an outcome.
  • Writing long scripts. Cut every lesson to one idea.
  • Skipping the quiz.
  • Never updating the course when the process changes.

What does a good lesson script look like?

Here is a short example for a refund lesson, about 100 words. Use it as a pattern.

Hook: A wrong refund costs us money and a customer’s trust. Here is how to get it right.

Steps: One, find the order. Two, check the item came back. Three, record the refund in the system. Four, tell the customer when to expect the money.

Example: A customer says the shoes are too small. You find the order, see the shoes are back, record the refund and tell her it takes three days.

Summary: Find, check, record, tell.

Notice how short it is. Each lesson sticks to one job.

What is Course Studio?

A tool inside the Skillermatic company portal for building your own training, with the same completion tracking and certificates as the rest of your catalog.
